| Sempervirens Memorial Grove |
As Singleaires we can be proud of those who went before us. Iris Tiets in 1978, arranged with the Sempervirens Fund to acquire a dedicated ten acre plot of the forest in Big Basin State Park specifically for our group, to honor our dearly departed friends. In return, we agreed to fund this grove with contributions. Our members began with fund raisers such as gourmet dinners, parties and pool parties. Presently, even though we have fulfilled our monetary obligation for our special grove, we still continue with contributions at our Potlucks. We have used and continue to use that special Redwood Grove to dedicate trees to our dearly departed members on an annual basis. The first dedication year was 1982. As of 2011, 63 of our dearly departed members have had trees dedicated to them. Our annual hike to the grove and the dedication of tree(s) occurs in May.
